AGREEMENT
in the form of an Exchange of Letters between the Czech Republic and the European Community concerning certain adaptations in the field of live bovine animals
A. Letter from the European Community
Sir,
I am pleased to be able to confirm to you that the Community will open tariff quotas for 1997 under the provisions of the European Agreement (1) at reduced rates of duty to 20% of the basic duty for products originating in Bulgaria, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, the Czech Republic, Romania and Slovakia for the following quantities:
- 178 000 live bovine animals weighing not more than 80 kg (subheading 0102 90 05 of the combined nomenclature)
- 153 000 live animals of a weight exceeding 160 kg but not exceeding 300 kg (subheadings 0102 90 41 and 0102 90 49 of the Combined Nomenclature).
The forecasts in this area point out that total imports of live bovine animals into the Community from different countries of origin may exceed 500 000 units per year. In that case, the Community may introduce the measures necessary to protect its market, regardless of any other rights granted by the European Agreement.
I would be obliged if you could confirm that your government agrees with the above.
Please accept, Sir, the assurance of my highest consideration.
