on the adoption of amendments to Article 8 of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court adopted in New York on 14 December 2017
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces that on 14 December 2017 amendments to Article 8 of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (1) were adopted in New York.
The Parliament of the Czech Republic has agreed to the amendments.
The instruments of acceptance of amendments by the Czech Republic, signed by the President of the Republic on 3 April 2020, were deposited with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the depositary of the Statute, on 10 July 2020.
The amendments entered into force on 2 April 2020 pursuant to Article 121 (5) of the Statute. They entered into force for the Czech Republic on 10 July 2021.
The English versions of the amendments and their translation into the Czech language are announced simultaneously.

AMENDMENT OF ARTICLE 8 OF THE ROME STATUTE

The Secretary-General of the United Nations, acting as depositary, shall communicate the following:
On 14 December 2017, at its 12th plenary session, the Assembly of the Parties to the Rome Statute adopted, by means of Resolution ICC-ASP / 16 / Res.4, in accordance with Article 121 (1) and (2) of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, an amendment to Article 8 of the Rome Statute consisting of the addition of Article 8 (2) (b) (xxix) and Article 8 (2) (e) (xviii) relating to weapons specifically constructed in such a way that their exclusive combat effect or one of the effects of fighting is to cause permanent blindness of unprotected vision, i.e. unprotected eyes or eyes bearing corrective vision devices.
A copy of the text of the amendment in the Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish languages is annexed.

The Secretary-General of the United Nations, acting as depositary, shall communicate the following:
On 14 December 2017, at its 12th plenary session, the Assembly of the Parties to the Rome Statute adopted, by means of Resolution ICC-ASP / 16 / Res.4, in accordance with Article 121 (1) and (2) of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, an amendment to Article 8 of the Rome Statute consisting of the addition of Article 8 (2) (b) (xxviii) and Article 8 (2) (e) (xvii) relating to weapons the primary effect of which is injury to the fragments which are detectable by X-rays in the human body.
A copy of the text of the amendment in the Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish languages is annexed.
